By: Infocellular
The Samsung Galaxy Mini and the Samsung Galaxy 5 are two Android-based smartphones targeted at budget conscious consumers who wish to have a taste of the latest technology without having to shell out extra for the bells and whistles of the higher end models. However, which of the two has the best bang for your buck?
While both the Samsung Galaxy Mini and Samsung Galaxy 5 are powered by a 600MHz processor, the former runs on a newer Android 2.2 (Froyo) OS while the latter is still on an Android 2.1 (Éclair) OS. Further inspection also reveals that the Samsung Galaxy Mini, despite its namesake, has a slightly larger display at 3.14 inches compared the Samsung Galaxy 5's 2.8 inch screen.
Both smartphones are comparable in terms of their internal memory, though the Samsung Galaxy 5 takes one home by having more memory at 170MB as opposed to the Samsung Galaxy Mini's 160MB. However in terms of memory expansion, the Samsung Galaxy Mini triumphs over the Samsung Galaxy 5 by supporting up to 32GB of MicroSD storage space, which is double the latter’s 16GB limit.
The Samsung Galaxy Mini also possesses a superior camera against the Samsung Galaxy 5, at 3MP, while the latter has a mere 2MP camera. Both cameras are able to record QVGA videos at 15 frames per second.
Connectivity wise, both smartphones are equal, equipped with the usual features, such as Quad Band GSM/GRPS/EDGE network supports, 3G network support with HSDPA of up to 7.2 Mbps, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n support, Bluetooth 2.1 and A-GPS.
With a clear advantage over the Samsung Galaxy 5 in terms of specifications alone, you would be surprised to know that the Samsung Galaxy Mini retails at a lower price. To recap, the Samsung Galaxy Mini runs on Android 2.2 (Froyo), has a comparatively larger screen and a better camera, making it the hands down choice for those who want a budget Android-based smartphone.
