LG Optimus Black vs Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc
By: Infocellular
The LG Optimus Black and the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc were both announced during CES 2011 in January, and if you thought the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc has a large screen, the LG Optimus Black has a something almost as big!
The Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc has been getting the lion's share of the publicity, but a quick glance at the specifications show that both devices have rather similar specifications. The Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc has a 4.2 inch, 480 x 854 pixel Multi-Touch TFT Touchscreen Reality Display with Mobile BRAVIA Engine while the LG Optimus Black has a 4.0 inch, 480 x 800 pixel Multi-Touch LCD Touchscreen with a NOVA display.
The main difference is apparently in the camera, where the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc has an 8.1-megapixel camera while the LG Optimus Black has a 5.0-megapixel camera. The LG Optimus Black claims the world’s first 2-megapixel front-facing camera while the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc does not have a front-facing camera.
Both devices rely on MicroSD expansion cards as the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc carries only 512 MB onboard while the LG Optimus Black carries only 1GB of storage space. Connectivity is almost identical as both the LG Optimus Black and the Sony Ericsson Xperia are quad-band GSM devices and support 3.5G HSDPA + HSUPA data speeds.
We are expecting both devices to launch around the same time. In Malaysia, we have reliable information that both products will be launched and priced this month of April 2011.
It is indeed difficult to differentiate between the LG Optimus Black and the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc before the prices are announced. We expect pretty similar prices since the SE has the better main camera and a newer version of the Android OS. However, the LG Optimus Black has what it claims to be the world's best secondary camera and the brightest screen display for a handset ever.
I think that both devices are fairly equal, and what could tip the balance is if the LG Optimus Black suddenly showed up with Android OS 2.3 (Gingerbread) instead of Android OS 2.2 (Froyo).
