YouTube for Windows Phone gets updated to be a real app

One of the biggest complaints from Windows Phone users has been the extremely poor quality of the built-in YouTube app. There have been other options in the Windows Phone Store, but nothing that really offered everything that could have been from an app officially authorized by Google. Well, the stock YouTube app for WP got a huge update today that finally makes it a real app.
Microsoft had recently said that it was limited in what it could offer through the YouTube app because of restrictions by Google, but it looks like the two companies have come to some sort of an agreement. The YouTube app for Windows Phone is no longer just a link to YouTube's mobile website, with version 3.0 it is a real app that offers full access to videos, channels, and playlists. It allows you to pin any of those items to the Windows Phone Start screen; and maybe best of all, the app also supports signing in to your YouTube account, giving you access to your uploads, playlists, and video lists.
This is a major update, and an extremely welcome one for Windows Phone users. If you want to get the update, just head over to the Windows Phone Store.

Where did all the Windows Phones go on T-Mobile’s website?

which may be coming to T-Mobile. It may be a relative to the Lumia 928, but we have not seen very many leaks or images about such a device. It also seems odd that T-Mobile would pull the curtain down on Windows Phone unless something special is in store with the highly affordable Lumia 521 which sold out in minutes at Wal-Mart.

We called around to a couple T-Mobile stores in Northern California, and several were totally out of stock of the Nokia Lumia 810 and Windows Phone 8X by HTC. When we called T-Mobile’s phone sales team, they had no explanation about the abrupt absence of Windows Phone devices in their system.

We are fairly confident that this is not an indication that T-Mobile USA is closing the door on Windows Phone. As for what T-Mobile has up its sleeve, we will have to wait and see.

Program that launches Android apps on Windows reaches 10 million downloads

We've written about BlueStacks before - it's a Windows program that allows the user to run Android apps on their Windows PC. We've tried the app and it's pretty cool for the most part, but you wouldn't normally think that such kind of software will become very popular. How wrong can we be! It turns out that since its launch as a beta product about a year ago, BlueStacks has been downloaded some 10 million times!

Of course, that doesn't mean that the program has 10 million active users, but according to the company's Senior VP of Marketing, the number of active users is "spooky high." It also looks like none of BlueStacks' employees though that their software will prove to be so popular with users. According to CEO Rosen Sharma:

When we launched the beta we all took bets on where we’d be in one year. No one said 10 million.

Right now, BlueStacks is looking to get PC manufacturers to pre-load BlueStacks on their computers, with Lenovo already being on the list of willing companies. In addition, it's said that BlueStacks will soon get updated to support the most recent Android version - Jelly Bean.

Road map of expected Windows Phone releases discovered

A road map of Windows Phone models expected to get launched over June, July and August was posted on Reddit by an unknown source which means, take this information with a grain of salt. The list includes phones manufactured by HTC, Nokia, Samsung and Huawei and even includes one 5 inch model with a 13MP snapper on back. Taiwan based HTC will be releasing the HTC Tiara. This is a model that we wrote about back in February and is expected to be the first post-Portico update Windows Phone model released.  There will be two variants of this model, one with 4G LTE connectivity. This model is allegedly heading to Sprint, although it is not known if it will be an exclusive for the carrier.

Nokia, of course, will be releasing one to as many as three handsets on May 14th during their press event in London. The Nokia Lumia 928 for Verizon is pretty much a gimme. The question is whether the Nokia Lumia 925, as rumored, will also be unwrapped during the event. And there is also the hope that the Nokia Lumia EOS and its 808 PureView-like 41MP camera sensor will also be introduced at the same time. The Reddit post also mentioned the Samsung Chronus, which was mistakenly labeled in the post as a Windows 8 notebook when it is supposedly a aluminum clad Windows Phone 8 handset.

We mentioned at the beginning of this article that one of the models listed on the road map was a 5 inch, FHD device. This is coming from Chinese manufacturer Huawei which purportedly will offer a Windows Phone 8 flavored version of its Android powered Huawei Ascend D2. This is expected to be called the Huawei Ascend WQ 5 and will be equipped with the same 13MP snapper on back that is seen on the Ascend D2.

Will we see all of these models in the June through August time frame as the Reddit poster claims? First up is the Nokia event in London which will be here before you know it.
