Sony Xperia ZL Get Update to Android 4.2.2 JB for Now

Sony has promised to release Android 4.2.2 updates for the Sony Xperia Z and Sony Xperia ZL soon after their launch. And even though the Xperia ZL hit the shelves a few weeks later than the Xperia Z, it is the first one to taste the latest 4.2.2 version of Jelly Bean.

Currently the Android 4.2.2 update is available for the Sony Xperia ZL C6503 (LTE) model across Europe. You can have it both through Sony PC Companion and over-the-air. We expect the other Xperia ZL flavors and more countries to join the roll out in the next couple of weeks.

Since Sony Xperia ZL and Xperia Z are practically identical, save for the different shells, we guess the update for the water-proof Xperia Z should be just around the corner.

Teaser Image of Sony Xperia Smartphone Leaks

Well, well, look what someone just slipped under the door today – an image that is presumably a teaser for one of Sony's upcoming Xperia devices. We can clearly see the silhouette of a smartphone that reminds us a lot of the Sony Xperia Z with its shape, but has a peculiar detail that sets it apart, namely the dual glowing lights that are most likely notification LEDs.

Interestingly, the file name of the image that was sent to us was "honamiteaser", meaning that we might be looking at the mysterious Honami Android smartphone by Sony. Rumor has it that this upcoming Sony Xperia device packs a 5-inch 1080p screen, Snapdragon 800 processor, and a 20-megapixel main camera, listed among other droolworthy hardware specs. These are yet to be confirmed, however, so it is still early to get excited.

In addition, Sony has one more smartphone to announce in the near future, according to speculations. The Togari smartphone by Sony (a codename, by the way) is said to be a Samsung Galaxy Note III competitor with a 6.5-inch display, Snapdragon 800 chip, and the ability to have its touchscreen operated with the use of a pencil or other objects. Again, none of these specs and features have been confirmed officially.

Keep in mind that the teaser image above might be a fake. If it is genuine, on the other hand, then the smartphone on the image will most likely be made official at the July 4 press event hosted by Sony. In the meantime, feel free to drop a comment below with your guess as to what the enigmatic "You can see it oon" could mean!

iOS 7 is Announced

iOS 7 brings a brand new look for the operating system with flatter icons and UI elements. All system icons are redesigned around a standardized grid to unify the look. It also brings animated wallpapers (not quite live wallpapers) and there's a dynamic parallax effect between the icons and the wallpaper as you turn and tilt your phone.

A much bigger change is a revamped multitasking system that allows apps to update much more often, while not wasting battery. To do that, iOS 7 keeps track when you use a specific app (all day, just in the morning and the evening) and lets the app update during that period. It also uses "opportunistic updates" – when you wake the device, it's going to use power anyway so iOS lets any available app update run in the background. It also keeps track of signal quality and if it's good, it updates multiple apps at once (since the radio is powered on anyway).

LG Optimus L Series II Leak Out

The entry-level LG Optimus L3 II from the image above will feature a beefier 1GHz CPU and improved IPS display panel, compared to what its predecessor had to offer, while keeping the same size and resolution. The camera will be a 5MP unit - up from 3.2MP for the older model.

Samsung Galaxy S III Mini Coming To T-Mobile As The Galaxy Exhibit 4G

With the Galaxy family of phones continuing to sell quite well for T-Mobile USA, it’s no surprise that the iPhone-less carrier would want to welcome Samsung’s Galaxy S III mini into its lineup as well. What is a surprise is the somewhat confusing choice of brand names: the pebble grey handset is poised to hit retail as the Samsung Galaxy Exhibit, nearly the same moniker as another device, the Samsung Galaxy Exhibit 4G — which itself was renamed from Samsung Exhibit II. And of course, there was the Samsung Exhibit 4G, the first in the series.

Blackberry 10 OS has Come

The latest iteration of the BlackBerry OS has been in the works for over two years before it went official earlier today. With dropping market share and countless unexciting QWERTY devices in recent years, the pressure was on for BlackBerry to provide a capable smartphone experience that will get them back in the game.

LG Optimus 2X scores a Guinness record as the first dual-core phone

LG Optimus 2X indeed is the world’s first dual-core smartphone (both announced and released). This achievement was acknowledged by the Guinness World Records – the Optimus 2X is the first dual-core phone available to the public.

The Optimus 2X phones (international and the Korea-only ones) were announced in December 2010. The Optimus 2X SU660 was released in Korea on 25 January this year so it’s the one that won LG the record.

It’s always a great honor to make it to the Guinness World Records especially with something that important. We give LG credit for that. But we have to admit the phone was rushed a bit and was released with Android 2.2 Froyo.

Surely the early adopters found it awesome, but when the other dual-cores hit the market (running on Gingerbread), the Optimus 2X started looking somewhat unfinished and incomplete. Various bugs, and excessive battery drainage and the lack of Android 2.3 Gingerbread are somewhat of deal breakers.

The Gingerbread update for Optimus 2X is expected this summer, but until then many customers will surely own a phone by the competition. We guess that’s the price you pay of being first.

Android distribution in April

We’ve just been given the Android version distribution report for April and there doesn’t appear to be any major changes in the existing trends. Froyo keeps gaining market share, but this time its growth rate is almost matched by Gingerbread. Honeycomb has gained some ground too, but it’s still by far the rarest distribution in existence.
