Android Froyo (v2.2) The Most Popular Google OS
By: Infocellular
The pie chart shows that Android 2.2 (Froyo) has the highest distribution percentage, 61.3%, follow on by Android 2.1 (Éclair) which has 29% of the distribution. This makes sense as most Android smartphones and tablets out in the market are preloaded with Android 2.2, while Android version 2.1 and below are being offered for a upgrade to 2.2.
Despite a range of smartphones and tablets being announced during CES 2011 and MWC 2011, figure shows little activation of the latest Android 2.3 and 2.3.3 (Gingerbread) which shows a combined distribution of 1.7% and Android 3.0 (honeycomb) has 0.2%.
Probably these figures will show a significant increase soon, as more new devices that preloaded with be Android 2.3 and 3.0 will be releasing in the market soon. Plus, existing devices will be upgrading to Android 2.3 as manufacturers are planning to roll them out in stages, such as the Samsung Galaxy S and the HTC Desire flagship models.
